On April 18th, Jiaoying Summers made her Taiwan debut at Two Three Comedy, and it was everything stand-up should be: a little gritty, a little sweaty, and completely unforgettable.

The show was sold out, with every folding chair claimed by a crowd that looked like Taipei itself—immigrants, locals, longtime expats, and comedy fans of all ages. The beer was flowing, the taps working overtime, and the audience was ready to laugh. Two Three is not a fancy venue. There are no risers or cushy seats, and by the time the lights dimmed, it was already hot enough to feel like the room might start steaming.

When Jiaoying walked onstage in full “Tiger MILF” mode—striking, glamorous, and radiating the confidence of someone who’s conquered the Apollo Theater—it was surreal. The contrast between her polished presence and the raw, no-frills setup of Two Three only made her more magnetic.

And the set itself? Flawless. Not a single joke fell flat. She moved effortlessly between stories about motherhood, cultural confusion, the absurdity of life in America, and her own experiences growing up in China. At one point, she carefully—and hilariously—tiptoed around the China/Taiwan political tension, pulling laughs, giggles, and smiles from the audience on this sensitive topic.

What struck me most was how she managed to be both savage and warm. Even as she roasted the audience (and herself), she made everyone feel like they were in on the joke.

By the time the set wrapped, the room was buzzing. There was no encore, no ceremony—just the collective high that comes from seeing a pro absolutely own the stage.
