Knuckle Cartel/La Mission

Project type

Theatre, Music, Installation

Date

2010 - 2020

Location

Germany & Europe

When I relocated to Berlin, Germany, I was awarded an artist stipend from the Goethe-Institut and the Foundation for Contemporary Art in New York, which allowed me to immerse myself fully in the European performing arts scene. Shortly after, I worked as an assistant at the Berliner Ensemble on Robert Wilson’s production of "Lulu," by Frank Wedekind. The production featured music by Lou Reed, with Hal Wilner as musical supervisor, and Angela Winkler in the title role.

During this period, I met many future collaborators and founded my own performance group, Knuckle Cartel. In Berlin, I began working with:

-Dr. Alexander Schweder – Performance architect, visual artist, and professor
-Renata Haar – Brazilian installation artist
-Anja Struck – German videographer, VJ, and dramaturge
-Magdalena Schnitzler – Theater and opera director, performance artist, and founder of Chapeau Club
-Nadim Samman – Professor, Critic, and Curator

Through these collaborations, my theatrical voice matured, and Knuckle Cartel evolved into a long-term interdisciplinary project. With Pablo Roman-Alcalá (music producer and DJ) and Dr. Luis Manuel Garcia-Mispireta (Professor of Ethnomusicology), I co-created La Mission—a hybrid performance project, record label, and zine exploring the intersections of music, performance, and community.

During my Berlin years, I also performed in John Cage’s "Europeras I & II," directed by Heiner Goebbels for the Ruhr Triennale, deepening my experience in experimental and cross-cultural performance.
